‘Tis the season of giving at Mairehau Primary School in their last couple of weeks of term.

Firstly, a massive thank you to the Mairehau Primary School staff! Instead of doing Secret Santa this year, they generously donated board games, toys and kai to families the Neighbourhood Trust work with. This was a wonderful example of paying it forward.

We were also delighted to be given some fresh produce last week by the Mairehau Primary School students.

Thanks to the efforts of Amanda Armitage-Baird (gardening guru and MPS parent), students have been involved in a garden project.

Recently they had a ‘spud in a bucket’ challenge where children were given a seed potato and given the task of growing as many potatoes as possible. Friday 4th December was the big reveal day showing how much had grown. They also pulled up the carrots that had been growing in the school vege garden.

On discussion the children decided to gift the produce to the Neighbourhood Trust’s Kai Box programme, which helps people in the Mairehau community who need a little extra support with kai.

This was such a generous, kind and thoughtful gesture and was sincerely appreciated by both the Trust, and those who received the produce.

If you, or someone you know, is in need of some extra kai please request a free Neighbourhood Trust Kai Box here.
