Shopping Night

The Local Little Shopping Night is a special evening event held twice a year at our Pay It Forward store at 49 Nancy Ave, Mairehau.

Pay It Forward is a co-operative, curated shop of quality, locally crafted gifts and products that gives Canterbury creatives a platform to sell their goods. For Mother’s Day in May, and Christmas in December, the shop opens for an evening event, featuring bubbles, nibbles, and a fun night filled with plenty of shopping.

Keep an eye on the Pay It Forward website and Facebook page to find out when the next Local Little Shopping Night is being held. Get your friends and family together, and enjoy a great night out to support this social enterprise.

Our annual Christmas Eve celebration features a great lineup of classic Christmas carols to bring people together and celebrate the true meaning of the season.

It is run by the St Albans Baptist Church and features a creative performance of the Christmas story, followed by a cuppa afterwards. Anyone in the community is welcome to attend this free event.

The Christmas Eve Celebration is held at St Albans Baptist Church, 64 McFaddens Road, Christchurch.

For a number of years Halloween has been gaining momentum in New Zealand.
We at the Neighbourhood Trust and St Albans Baptist Church, want to see families enjoying themselves and spending quality time together, but instead by celebrating life, wellbeing and diversity, rather than Halloween traditions. So we put on an alternative event each year on the 31st October – the Light Party!

Mairehau Community Day

A free, family event is held every March at Mairehau Primary School. It features heaps of exciting rides, a merry-go-round, mini jeeps, a bouncy castle, face painting, and lots of fun for everyone. The day out is a great opportunity to meet other families and residents in Mairehau.

It also features information stalls set up by different organisations and services in the area. The Mairehau Community Day began in 2008 after local children asked for a fun, community event, and it continues to grow each year.

Thank you to the Papanui-Innes Community Board and The Tindall Foundation for their generous support of the Day.

ESOL Classes

Neighbourhood Trust is pleased to offer free English (ESOL) lessons to newcomers and migrants with English as a second language, or with low levels of English.

The one-hour long, daytime classes, are taught by a qualified ESOL teacher and are run once a week on Tuesday or Thursday. Lessons cover conversation; grammar; punctuation; reading; and understanding common Kiwi phrases and the context of them in everyday language.

The classes are designed to be fun and engaging, and to suit the individual needs of the student.

We use the SuccessMaker system, which helps to equip students with the English skills needed to put them on the road to success and new opportunities. It is based on the New Zealand curriculum and small class sizes mean you can learn at your own pace.

For more information about our free ESOL classes phone (03) 3556522 or email
